A Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging

March commemorates many things. It’s Women’s History Month, Ethnic Equality Month and Gender Equality Month. This month also reminds us there are lives that have been forever changed from the events of the last 12 months.

Stratacomm powered through 2020 and, today, on the other side of a most unusual year, the company is working to foster a work environment that values, encourages and supports the contributions and successes of all employees through the creation of Stratacomm’s first-ever Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEI + B) Council.

To kickoff this effort, Stratacomm enlisted the help of an outside diversity consultant. Team Stratacomm participated in the first of many DEI-focused trainings and our progress will be tracked against an annual survey. We also began implementing new organizational practices to help reduce bias, including blind recruitment where a candidate’s name, gender, education and location are masked. To further demonstrate the deep commitment to each individual that comprises Team Stratacomm, we also hired our first-ever director of people & culture. We will share more about this new role soon.

As Stratacomm’s journey continues, today the company rolls out a new corporate value:

DEI+B
Actively nurturing a workplace that is diverse in identities and ideas, equitable in opportunities, inclusive in approach, creates a sense of belonging—and is accountable to all.

Already more than six months into this journey to better value, protect and engage employees to bring their best selves to work—for themselves, the company, their peers and our communities—Stratacomm believes that DEI + B is more than just four buzzwords, but an overall driver behind Stratacomm’s organization at all levels.

Diversity:
Our employees are our greatest asset and they must be representative of American society. We seek employees who will not only bring the needed skills, and strategic and creative thinking our clients demand, but also cultural competency and knowledge to help make us all better.

Equity:
Beyond fairness, true equity aims to identify and eliminate barriers that prevent the full participation of individuals based on their specific demographic-related needs. By addressing the needs of individuals, making sure all employees have access to the resources they need to succeed, Stratacomm is working to bridge gaps and deepen employee engagement at all levels.

Inclusion:
Ensuring employees (current and future) feel a part of an inclusive organization is top priority. We understand inclusion means that underrepresented groups feel welcomed—and heard—at every level of the organization. We are actively taking steps to ensure our diverse workforce is fully leveraged to drive positive impact.

Belonging:
Central to DEI, Stratacomm must nurture a workplace where employees do not strive to “fit-in,” but rather enhance and amplify our culture. This will only be done when employees truly believe they belong at Stratacomm as a place to share, grow, explore and learn—personally and professionally.

Although Stratacomm’s efforts to foster trust and create safe spaces for all employees to thrive is well underway, we know that there is never an end to this work. As Stratacomm works toward becoming a fully inclusive multicultural organization, we look forward to the discussions, sharing and growth that lies ahead.

Stratacomm’s DEI + B Council is co-chaired by Meredythe Gray and Karah Davenport. Interested in joining our team? Stratacomm is actively looking for opportunities to diversify as we fill important job openings in our two offices.
